Parking wardens target cars in Preston Park station area

October 14, 2009 Mark Kelly Leave a comment

Brighton and Hove Council certainly didn’t waste any time.  Already cars are being targeted by traffic wardens in the area.  However, what’s more frustrating is that now, the very residents who voted in favour of implementing a parking zone in the Preston Park station area are moaning because they feel the measures are too “draconian.” Read more…

This is a continuation of my previous write-up ‘War and Peace – Volume 1,’ and once again, I’m writing it some eight months after reading it , so I’m drawing a lot from memory.  They’re meant more as refreshers than reviews – and it’s important to realise that what you read here barely touches the surface of what is possibly the finest work ever written.  Also this write-up does contain spoilers. With that in mind here goes… Read more…

What is the Lydian Chromatic Concept of Tonal Organisation?

August 15, 2009 Mark Kelly 1 comment

I wrote this for Channel 4 News the day after George Russell died and to be honest I’m still not entirely sure I get it.  Perhaps you can elaborate in the comments below? Kick-Ass – Designed for the big screen from day one?

Dave Lizewski isn’t the class jock, he isn’t the class geek either.  He’s just your average inbetweener.  He has good taste in movies and music, the class babe thinks he’s a dawk and he wishes his Dad could get over his mother’s death when he was fourteen.  His biggest escape in life is through comic books.  Then as exam pressure mounts he gets to thinking about what he wants to do with his life… Read more…

Members…

‘…must never accept any financial inducement as an incentive or reward for exercising parliamentary influence.’
‘…must not vote on any bill or motion , or ask any question in the House or Committee, or promote any matter, in return for payment.’

Yet following a recent Sunday Times sting it’s alleged that four Labour Lords have been breaking the rules, getting paid large sums of money, for, it’s suggested, doing just that.  Now of course it’s down to grammar, with lawyers analysing exactly what was said to undercover reporters and explaining to you and I what was meant. Preston Park resident’s parking – The public consultation

Letter published in The Argus

I write regarding the current public consultation about the introduction of a parking scheme in the Preston Park Station area.

Residents’ parking is a good idea. Who wouldn’t want a virtual guarantee of a space in their street? However, for Brighton and Hove City Council to charge for the privilege seems unreasonable. Read more…
